An air balloon with inscriptions in Cyrillic alphabet landed in Sokoliany in Podlaskie voivodeship. The object was found at night a few kilometres from the border with Belarus.
Police officers and anti-terrorist special forces were sent to the site, Radio ZET reported.
A few hours later, it turned out that the balloon had a bag with cigarettes without Polish excise stamps attached to it. The police are investigating the details of the smuggling attempt. The package contained a total of 1,200 packets of cigarettes.
This is not the first such incident in Podlaskie Voivodeship: a balloon with cigarettes arrived in Poland from Belarus a few weeks ago. At that, the Polish security services check each such case, including for possible espionage.
