AFU Colonel Reveals Ammunition That Russian Air Force Dropped On Belgorod
Petro Chernik

Many similar emergencies await Russians.

A powerful explosion occurred in the centre of Belgorod last night. It created a crater with a 20-meter radius. The Russian Defense Ministry says the explosion was caused by "an accidental failure of an aircraft munition" of the Russian Su-34 during its flight above the city.

What does such an accident indicate? Charter97.org addressed this question to a Ukrainian military analyst, a colonel in the reserve of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Petro Chernik.

- This is almost the only case when the Russian Ministry of Defense tells the truth. The fact that this bomb has managed to malfunction proves that strategically the military-industrial complex of Russia has speeded up in terms of its degradation. There is no doubt about that. I believe such cases will only multiply. This case, by the way, is not an isolated one either.

We remember how Su-34 crashed into an apartment building in Yeisk, almost completely demolishing an entire entryway. The Russian Federation is decommissioning the largest ocean-going cruiser Peter the Great, which they call the "aircraft carrier killer", and also decommissioning the Lada-class diesel-electric submarine.

This is an indication that Russia is not in a position to build really good quality weapons. This will all degrade. I think we will witness more cases like this. It is a good thing.

- One version is that an FAB-1500 aerial bomb, used to bomb Mariupol, fell on Belgorod. Another is a new munition that Russia has been using for the last few weeks. What kind of munition do you think it could have been?

- Most likely, it was a KAB-500 aerial bomb, which is a precision-guided weapon designed to defeat "drop-forget" ground targets such as gun points and manpower in normal weather conditions - Note). It is a 500 kg guided aerial bomb. If the aerial bomb had been 1500kg, the crater would have been larger.

- It is surprising that the Russian Ministry of Defence was so quick to admit that it was a Russian bomb. Why? Because there is a tendency to cover up such emergencies.

- It is no longer possible to conceal such things now. I would say it was the right manoeuvre from the propaganda point of view. It is called an open door tactic. Why should one kick down the doors when they could be opened? They let off all the possible steam at once. The incident will subside in just a few days.
