New Infection That Struck China Has Reached Russia

The disease affects children and adolescents.

In Russia, isolated cases of mycoplasma infection have been recorded. Chinese authorities warned about a possible infection outbreak.

According to the Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing - Ed.) Press Service, quoted by RIA Novosti, all group cases, including collective manifestations of infection, are under investigation.

The service conducts comprehensive laboratory diagnostics of sick people and their contacts. The Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Infection most often affects children and adolescents, especially during autumn and winter.

Symptoms include a severe and prolonged cough, chest pain, and in rare cases, bronchial obstruction. To confirm the diagnosis, a PCR test is recommended.

The Telegraph wrote about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in China in November this year. Later, Chinese authorities clarified that it was mycoplasma pneumonia. They noted an increase in the number of cases back in May. Medics emphasized that all acute respiratory diseases in the country are caused by known pathogens.

In early December, cases of mycoplasma infection were recorded in the European Union and the United States.

Experts emphasize that the situation in the United States is expected to worsen, comparable to some periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. The overall course of the disease is usually favourable, but doctors warn of possible severe cases, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and medical intervention.
