SBU Reserve General: Invasion Into Ukraine Will Lead To Overthrow Of Lukashenka Regime
VIKTOR YAGUN

Belarusian patriots have already raised the question of creating units for the liberation army of Belarus.

The authorities of Russia and Belarus continue their aggressive rhetoric against Ukraine. Major General of the SBU reserve Viktor Yagun spoke about the possibility of a real conflict between the countries, the willingness of all sides and its consequences on the air of the "Belsat Studio" program.

Major-General of the SBU reserve Viktor Yagun notes that, despite Lukashenka's desire to organize panic in the Ukrainian society, it has little effect on the actual mood in the country. The expert also does not believe in the date of February 20, which is now very often referred to as a possible date of the beginning of the next conflict:

"If we know the date of the attack, there will definitely not be one at that time - it is an axiom. Yes, we have a date of February 20, 2014, we also have the Winter Olympics in Sochi and there is a repeat of the situation with the Beijing Olympics, only on February 20. I don't think the stars will align so directly and he will decide on such an offensive. We just need to analyse the information attack that is currently going on".

At the same time, Viktor Yagun believes that it is still possible to preserve peace in the region, which depends mostly on the actions of Vladimir Putin, but he is driving himself increasingly into a desperate situation.

"The aggressor himself has driven himself into a situation where he can't get any results, because the stakes he has put up and raised, it just has to be implemented somehow. I understand that most of it is for domestic consumption, but in the meantime, with his geopolitical games he has brought peace all over the world to the brink.

The whole Europe doesn't understand how to get out of this situation, the major world players don't understand what is going on, but I think there is an opportunity to stop the possible hot phase of this conflict. But it is not clear whether Putin will do that.

According to Viktor Yahun, if an armed conflict between the countries does start, Ukraine will be much better prepared for it than it was in 2014.

"In the last two weeks Ukraine has received such a huge amount of weapons, primarily anti-tank weapons, which not only can stop, it can radically change the situation in a possible conflict. We have really motivated units that have undergone combat training under conflict conditions.

We have a huge reserve, about 350 thousand men, who have combat experience. I do not believe that the strike will be very quick and lethal, I think we are ready to deal with it".

In addition, Viktor Yagun is convinced that Russia and Belarus are not ready for a serious and full-scale offensive against Ukraine, and this very action could lead to the overthrow of the Lukashenka regime.

"If indeed the units controlled by the dictator of Belarus try to enter the territory of Ukraine, I think it will be a great surprise to him that opposite these units there will be Belarusian patriots who are already raising the question of creating units for the liberation Belarusian army.

And it will be a very interesting fact when this regime collapses not because it did something wrong somewhere on its territory, but because it made a reckless step by entering Ukraine".
