There comes a crucial moment in the development of the situation in Belarus.

Today, a possible candidate for president of Belarus Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said that her initiative group would not collect signatures in the capital and regional cities, as she is afraid of provocations. The FID employees also came to the head office of Belgazprombank, headed by Viktar Babaryka before his nomination for presidency. Criminal cases against the bank employees have been initiated, as well as people related to the potential presidential candidate are being searched.

Zmitser Bandarenka, coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign, has commented on the situation to the Charter97.org website.

- A decisive moment in the development of the situation in Belarus is coming. Lukashenka clearly understands that if he registers strong candidates, he has no chance to stay in power. That's why he went to the limit. Viktar Babaryka is the last strong presidential candidate and political leader who is still at large. Today, as a candidate, on whom many Belarusians pin their hopes for change, he has a choice: either to win or to be arrested just like Tsikhanouski, Statkevich, Seviarynets and others.

No matter how many times you say the word "fair elections", they will not become fair under the dictatorship of Lukashenka. It is clear that Babaryka's strategy is to be registered, and then he will conduct a more active campaign. But this childish wish is literally "written" all over his face. Lukashenka sees it perfectly well and has something to lose.

The moment of truth, discussed by the opposition and many analysts, is coming now. Babaryka may be arrested and removed from the elections in the very near future. There is a war of nerves. The candidate is afraid that if he calls people to take to the streets right now, the authorities may arrest him for that call. But if he does not appeal to people for help, then he goes to prison for "money laundering and tax evasion" and will not be allowed to take part in the elections.

Viktar Babaryka needs to bring his election headquarters and the entire initiative group to a state of combat readiness. It is necessary to prepare and voice his appeal to the Belarusians stating that in case of his arrest he calls on Belarusians to take to the streets of cities to protect their choice, to protect their candidates, to start a national strike and a campaign of civil disobedience. I want to say once again: not to urge now, but to warn the authorities that such an appeal will follow in case of his arrest or withdrawal from the election campaign.

Viktar Babaryka has one last chance to win, but for this he needs to show his man and leadership skills. If he shows determination, the people will support him.
