The criminal case against the Biaroza blogger and activist has been closed.

As Aliaksandr Kabanau told the BAJ monitoring service correspondent, he had found out about it accidentally. The case was closed with the wording "for the absence of a crime".

The blogger notes that the criminal case was reopened following the decision of the Brest region prosecutor's office at the very beginning of the campaign for "electing" "the deputies of the house of representatives. At that, Aliaksandr Kabanau planned to participate in the "elections" as a candidate in one of the electoral districts in Brest, but he was not registered due to the alleged mistakes while filling in the questionnaire.

As for updating the criminal case, according to the blogger, he was summoned to the police only once, but refused to visit the police department.

"After that I was not disturbed at all, but after the "elections" I suddenly learned that the case had been closed due to the absence of a crime," - Aliaksandr Kabanau says.

He still does not understand the reason for resuming this criminal case, as the previous charges were not confirmed. The only theory is that the case was resumed to prevent Aliaksandr Kabanau's active participation in the "election" campaign.

"It is possible that the authorities will want to reopen the case in 2020, when the presidential "elections" begin in Belarus," - the blogger jokes.

Aliaksandr Kabanau is a well-known blogger who actively covers the protests against the construction of the battery factory near Brest.
