Lukashenka’s Media Manipulate Figures

Lukashenka’s Media Manipulate Figures

They told on BT that Belarus was ahead of China, India and the United States.

Thanks to the High-Tech Park, Belarus is “significantly ahead of Russia, the USA, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and many other technological countries”. This was told to us yesterday in the “Main Air” on the Belarus 1 TV channel, reports Euroradio.

Is this really true and our modest HTP outshined everyone?

The fact is that for comparison, an indicator was chosen that represents Belarus in a favorable light: export of computer services per capita. At the beginning of 2019, for Belarus this figure was $ 108 and our IT country really overtook the United States ($ 58), India ($ 40), China ($ 20) and other states.

The figure looks significant if you do not think about how much the population of Belarus is less than the population of other countries. 145 times more people live in China than in our country, and the export of computer services from it is only 5.5 times less than in Belarus. The same situation is with India (136 times more people, and IT exports under 2.5 times less), the USA (34 times more people, and computer services exports under 2 times less) and so on.

If we recalculate any economic indicator per capita, then the country will look the better, the fewer people live in it. The population of Belarus over the past 25 years has declined by almost 500 thousand people. Is it really worth boasting about it?
