German insurance company Allianz has filed a lawsuit in a British court against six activists from the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action, writes The Guardian. Allianz is seeking £300,000 (more than $300,000) in damages for the activists damaging its offices in the UK. As the newspaper notes, this is the first case of a civil claim against Palestine Action protesters.
In October 2024 and March 2025, activists held rallies in front of Allianz's London headquarters and Guildford office to protest the company's insuring the British unit of Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems. During the protests, activists spray-painted red paint on the buildings where Allianz offices are located. Last year, the insurance company terminated its contract with Elbit Systems.
Palestine Action representatives say a civil suit could hurt them badly because the organization operates on a volunteer basis and does not have hundreds of thousands to pay lawyers and compensation, if awarded.
Palestine Action has held many actions in Britain in recent years, the most famous of which was breaking into Britain's largest airbase, Bryce-Norton, and damaging two planes there.
