The plant has been out of operation since March 2.
Qatar has started to gather engineers and workers to restore production at the world's largest LNG plant in Ras Laffan. This was reported by Bloomberg citing sources. According to them, the country took such a decision after the announcement of a truce between the US and Iran.
The Ras Laffan plant has been out of operation since March 2, when Iran hit the production facility with missiles. The plant was hit again on March 18 and 19. The suspension of production has caused a global shortage of gas supplies. According to Bloomberg, the plant's full capacity is 77 million tons of LNG per year. Qatari authorities reported that it would take "weeks or months" to return to a normal schedule of LNG supplies.
In the truce conditions, the plant will be able to start operating in a limited mode and conduct technical work, the agency's sources said. Some production could resume in the coming days, they said. At the same time, Qatar will need permission to transit products through the Strait of Hormuz to return to large production volumes.
U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to suspend strikes on Iran for two weeks. He said the sides have made progress on a peace settlement and within those two weeks they will be able to formalize a final agreement. Israel also announced the suspension of strikes on the republic. The US-Iran talks will be held on April 10 in the Pakistani capital.
