US Congress Has Called For Trump's Impeachment

In connection with the war against Iran.

US Democratic congressmen are discussing a joint demand to impeach President Donald Trump over the war against Iran, Axios reported, citing sources.

Democrats are discussing initiating a vote on the issue or drafting a cabinet call to invoke the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, one of the sources told the publication.

Many congressmen have called for Trump's resignation in public statements. "Impeachment. Suspension. This insane lunatic should be removed from office," wrote House of Representatives member Ilhan Omar (Minnesota). Another House member Yassamin Ansari (Arizona) pointed out that "the 25th Amendment exists for a reason" and should be utilized because "the fate of American troops, the Iranian people, and the very foundations of our global system are at stake."

"Pathetic. Democrats were talking about impeaching President Trump before he even took office," White House spokesman Davis Ingle commented on the initiative.

The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is primarily intended to clarify presidential succession in the event of resignation, death, illness and temporary incapacity. Section four describes a tiered procedure by which the vice president and a majority of cabinet officials may declare the U.S. president "unable to exercise the powers and duties of his office." This procedure requires a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress.
