Z-propagandists Howled Over The Problems With Russian Air Defenses

ISW gave the details.

Ukraine is expanding its campaign of long-range strikes against Russian oil infrastructure, while Russian "war correspondents" complain about the ineffectiveness of its own air defense and the substantial damage from these Ukrainian attacks.

This is the subject of a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on April 6.

The ISW analysts found that Ukraine's new strikes on the Sheskharis oil terminal and the Admiral Makarov frigate in the port of Novorossiysk are an expansion of a Ukrainian campaign of attacks that significantly undermines Russian oil export capabilities.

The Institute for the Study of War stresses that Russia's geographic size "creates a huge challenge" to defending such targets, especially with traditional air defense systems, which the Russians still seem to rely on to defend against Ukrainian drone attacks. Analysts also recall that Ukraine has previously conducted a large-scale campaign of strikes against the radars of Russian air defense systems. Therefore, the Russian air defense system is now overwhelmed by the need to cover vast territories.

With this background, Russian "war correspondents" criticize the inefficiency of Russian air defense systems and note the impact of Ukrainian strikes, ISW states. In particular, a "war correspondent" close to the Kremlin said on April 6 that due to Ukraine's constant strikes, Russian air defense forces are "working at a breakneck pace" and their ammunition is being used up "at an intensified pace." This "war correspondent" also complained that "it is physically impossible to simply create tens of thousands of missiles for Pantsir [air defense systems] out of thin air." Therefore, he criticized Russian media proposals that suggest increasing the supply of anti-aircraft guided missiles and SAMs to defend against Ukrainian strikes. "For some reason, no one is trying to realize how difficult it is to simply take and increase the production of this type of weaponry," the "military correspondent" complained. Instead, he urged the Russian army to copy Ukraine's experience in countering air attacks - "more maneuverable fire groups, more drone-interceptor squads, more acoustic reconnaissance systems."

The ISW adds that other Russian "war correspondents" also complain that dealing with the aftermath of Ukrainian strikes requires resources, and that daytime Ukrainian drone strikes further deplete Russian air defenses. They also recognize the systematic nature of long-range Ukrainian drone strikes and the vulnerability of Russian warships stationed at bases within range of Ukrainian drones.
