The Ukrainian armed forces have taken another step toward forcing Putin to make peace.
In Novorossiysk, after a strike by Ukrainian drones, the Sheskharis oil terminal caught fire.
How can this strike affect the port's operation and what will it mean for Russia if not only the Baltic, but also the Black Sea harbors are threatened?
This is the question Charter97.org asked Ukrainian politician and former Verkhovna Rada deputy Boryslav Bereza:
- A large, large-scale fire due to an oil spill has been recorded at berth No. 1 in Novorossiysk. Also berth No. 2 is on fire, and in general the situation is such that they cannot work.
And this is very positive for Ukraine. Moreover, let's be frank: this is an opportunity for Ukraine to cut off the filling of the Russian budget. Because oil and gas, their shipment and sale - it all fills the Russian budget. When that's gone, the Russians don't have money for war.
For example, the strike on the port of Ust-Luga - and this is one of Russia's key ports in the Baltic Sea - stopped oil sales and shipments by about 60 percent. So right now, I think every such strike just adds to Russia's problem. The more such strikes there are, the more motivation Putin will have to end the war, because war without money is impossible. It's just that there should be as many strikes as possible.
In addition, the terminal in Novorossiysk has stopped shipping oil altogether. And local sources are writing about it, and Western sources have already started writing about it, so this is very good news.
- How will the reduction of oil exports hit the Russian economy and its ability to continue the war?
- No oil sales, no sales of any energy carriers, respectively, no budget revenues. No revenues to the budget - it is impossible to spend on the war. This is another step towards forcing Putin to make peace.
