Russian Authorities Confirmed The Death Of Lt. Gen. Otroshchenko

He was aboard the downed An-26.

Governor of Russia's Murmansk region Andrey Chibis has confirmed the death of Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshchenko during the crash of the An-26 military transport plane in annexed Crimea. Chibis said this during a government meeting that began with a minute of silence, writes "Interfax".

An-26 crashed on March 31 during a routine flight. There were 29 people on board, according to the Defense Ministry. The Investigative Committee reported 30 dead. The Defense Ministry specified that "there was no impact on the plane." Russian media, citing unnamed sources, wrote that the plane crashed into a rock.

Alexander Otroshchenko was killed in the crash, the BBC Russian Service reported on April 2, citing a source from among Northern Fleet servicemen and a Severomorsk resident who lost a relative in the crash, as well as the Spy's Dossier telegram channel. According to the channel, six officers from the Northern Fleet headquarters, military unit No. 45625 in Severomorsk, died with him.

Otroshchenko had been head of the Northern Fleet's mixed aviation corps since 2024. Before that, he commanded the naval aviation of the Black Sea and Northern Fleets, as well as the 45th Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet. In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
