The head of the Catholic Church urged the faithful not to lose hope.

Pope Leo XIV celebrated his first Easter Mass as pontiff on Sunday, urging not to lose hope despite "the violence of war, which kills and destroys."

It was reported by AP.

In the Mass, the pope noted that "today we need this song of hope" as conflicts spread around the world.

In his Easter sermon, the pope highlighted those who wage wars, bully the weak and put profit above all else.

The pontiff urged the faithful not to lose hope in the face of death that awaits "in injustice, in partisan selfishness, in the oppression of the poor, in the lack of attention to the most vulnerable.

"We see it in the violence, in the wounds of the world, in the cry of pain echoing from every corner because of the abuses that oppress the weakest among us, because of the idolatry of profit that plunders the resources of the earth, because of the violence of war that kills and destroys," he said.

He quoted his predecessor Pope Francis as warning against indifference in the face of "unceasing injustice, evil, indifference and cruelty" because "it is also true that in the midst of darkness something new always springs up, which sooner or later bears fruit."

Leo will later deliver the traditional message of "Urbi et Orbi" - from the Latin for "to the city and to the world."
