Most Christian churches today celebrate the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ.
All Catholic churches and Protestant houses of worship in Belarus held festive services.
Easter is the most awaited bright day for many Christians. Easter symbolizes the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of people and for the sake of saving the human race from terrible troubles.
Easter is one of the holidays with a floating date, as the holiday is calculated according to the lunar-solar calendar and is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon. In addition, due to the difference in calendars, Catholics (Gregorian calendar) and Orthodox (Julian calendar) celebrate Easter with a certain difference.
The day before Archbishop-Emmeritus Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz addressed the clergy and believers in Belarus with strong words. The honorable hierarch and moral authority of Belarusian Catholics said that the Easter holiday puts us all before a choice and the grace of God cannot be there where there is compromise with sin and evil.
Specialities of worship
On Easter night in front of the church, a Catholic priest makes a fire, from which he lights a very large candle, which is called Paschal. The same tradition characterizes the Easter rite in Anglican and Lutheran churches. From the Paschal, the parishioners light their candles and take the lighted candle home. Notably, after Easter, Paschal is lit at every service until Pentecost (the descent of the Holy Spirit).
