A Drone Attack Halted A Key Unit At One Of Russia's Largest Refineries

This unit provides 28% of the plant's total capacity.

A drone attack has shut down one of the largest units at the Novo-Ufimsk refinery, which is owned by Rosneft, Reuters reports.

The agency notes that a fire broke out at the refinery after a Ukrainian drone attack on Thursday, April 2. Because of this, the refinery was forced to shut down one of the largest primary oil refining units.

Three sources in the industry said that the fire occurred exactly at the CDU-5 unit of the Novo-Ufa refinery. It provides about 28% of the refinery's total capacity.

The company did not provide a comment in response to a Reuters request. It is known that the company operates three more primary oil refining units.

In 2024, the Novo-Ufa refinery processed 3.8 million tons of oil, or about 76,000 barrels per day. This is 1.4% of the total volume of oil refining in Russia.

In the same period, the refinery produced 1.2 million tons of gasoline, 2.6 million tons of diesel fuel and 1.1 million tons of fuel oil.
