Latvia Has Revealed The Name Of A Spy From Belarus

Riga considers the Belarusian intelligence service to be a branch of the Russian GRU.

Latvia's Military Intelligence and Security Service in its annual report for 2025 has released the names of officers involved in espionage against the Baltic country. The list includes six representatives of the Russian GRU (Alexei Pyzhikov, Alexei Lesnikov, Nikolai Chetverikov, Alexander Yushin, Alexander Gladkov and Grigory Ivanov) and a member of the Belarusian military intelligence service Sergei Baranov.

The agency emphasizes the close integration of the intelligence services of the two countries, calling Belarusian intelligence a de facto "branch" of the Russian GRU. According to the Latvian side, Minsk collects data in the interests of Moscow. The report also contains a warning: in case of a potential conflict between Russia and the West, the GRU plans to activate a network of agents in Latvia to carry out sabotage and data collection, using methods already tested in Ukraine.
