NATO's Reaction To Trump's Threats Is Known

NATO is not "overly concerned" amid new statements by US President Donald Trump about the country's possible withdrawal from the Alliance.

One of the European officials, on condition of anonymity, called such statements by Trump "Groundhog Day," noting that it is not the first time the Alliance has heard such rhetoric from him.

The sources emphasize that it is impossible to completely ignore such threats. The American president's decisions can be made quickly, so there is a certain anxiety among some diplomats.

A senior European diplomat noted that some allies see Trump's recent statements as an attempt to pressure European countries to allocate resources to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, other interlocutors do not see a direct link between these issues.

One NATO diplomat emphasized that such rhetoric by Trump "reflects his frustration with the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
