US President Donald Trump has delivered an address to the nation to share an update on the war with Iran. The American leader assured that the US will "see it through" and announced the next major strikes.
The speech was the first major national address by a president on the conflict in the Middle East since he began bombing Iranian targets in February. "Focus" reports the White House chief's key statements.
Trump began the address by saying the U.S. and Israel have succeeded in destroying Iran's navy.
"Iran's navy has been destroyed. Their air force lies in ruins," the US leader said.
Trump also explained that the US is independent of the Middle East, but is there to help allies.
"We don't have to be there. We don't need their oil. We don't need anything they have. But we are there to help our allies," the White House chief emphasized.
Trump said the main strategic goals of the military operation in Iran are already "almost achieved."
On Iran's blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said countries that receive oil through it should take care of the passage on their own. The US has no interest in the strait, Trump emphasized, adding that it will be opened "naturally" when the conflict in the Middle East comes to an end.
Trump announces powerful new strikes on Iran
In an address to the nation, the US president also announced powerful new strikes on Iran in the near future. US forces are preparing to carry them out in the next 2-3 weeks, Trump said.
"We will hit them extremely hard in the next 2-3 weeks. We will take them back to the stone age, where they belong," the politician said.
The United States is ready to destroy Iran's power plants and oil infrastructure if it does not make a deal, Trump assured.
It is worth noting that the day before, the media speculated that during his address to the nation, Trump would announce a ground invasion of Iran or declare the realization of all objectives in a military operation. The publication Politico in particular wrote that the US President intends to declare victory in Iran.
