It's been a bad year for the dictator.
Political scientist Alexander Klaskowski in an article for "Pozirka" comments on the victory of the Hungarian opposition and the departure from power of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a friend of Lukashenko:
- Another important point: many commentators expect that the new Hungarian government will finally give the go-ahead for a 90 billion euro EU loan to Ukraine.
So far, this decision has been blocked by Budapest and Bratislava. And Magyar comes in favor of his country's constructive dialog with the EU and NATO.
If Ukraine receives such weighty aid, it will be able to inflict more damage on the invaders. Accordingly, the Kremlin will have fewer resources to support its Minsk ally. This is not a happy prospect for Lukashenko either.
Finally, in purely psychological terms, he has had a bad year. One by one, the evil fate has knocked out old comrades: Nicolas Maduro, Ali Khamenei, now Orban.
The fates are different, of course, but the moral is the same: the jug carries water until the time is right.
