Leo XIV stated that he would not adjust to the political situation.
The head of the Vatican Leo XIV has responded to criticism of US President Donald Trump. The pontiff emphasized that he intends to continue to broadcast his beliefs, regardless of Washington's displeasure. This is reported by CNN.
After Trump bombarded the pontiff with harsh remarks, Pope Leo said that such outbursts do not scare him.
"I do not intend to be drawn into a polemic. My words are not a personal attack. I only call on humanity to build bridges for the sake of peace and harmony, trying to avoid wars by all available means," the head of the church said.
The Pontiff also added that his mission is to preach the Gospel, and he does not intend to adjust to the political conjuncture of the White House. According to the pope, the church is not engaged in foreign policy in the pragmatic way in which Trump perceives it.
"I am not afraid of the Trump administration. I'm here to voice truths that are important to the church. We are not politicians," Leo XIV summarized in a conversation with reporters.
Reminder that the wave of discussion began after Sunday's statement by Donald Trump, who publicly admitted that he is "not a fan" of the current pope.
