Even official sociologists write about it.
State sociologists continue to record a drop in President Vladimir Putin's approval ratings amid Telegram blockades, a war on VPNs and internet outages, writes The Moscow Times.
In the week ending April 5, Putin's official "approval rating" fell to 67.8 percent, the lowest level since Feb. 20, 2022, VTsIOM reported Friday.
Putin's rating lost 2.3 points in the week, 4.9 points in the past four weeks, and 10 points from the end of last year. The "approval ratings" of the government (40.3%), the State Duma (41.7%) and the Federation Council (41.8%) have reached their lowest levels since the invasion of Ukraine.
The VTsIOM open poll, when respondents themselves are asked to name a politician they "trust" or "do not trust," showed Putin's rating dropping to 29.5%. This is also the lowest value since the start of the war in Ukraine. Compared to the peak of recent years - 48.8% in March 2024 - it has shrunk by more than a third.
At its peak - in 2015 - the figure reached 71%, political analyst Abbas Galliamov recalls. Since then, Putin's real rating has more than halved. And perhaps now it will simply stop being published, Galliamov does not rule it out.
The official "approval rating" of Putin, which VTsIOM keeps at around 70%, is not a rating, but rather a "fear indicator," the expert believes: it reflects not real approval in society, but the number of people who are not afraid to tell state sociologists that they do not support the president. However, there are more and more such people, according to the polls.
