"George H.W. Bush" will join other U.S. carrier strike groups.
A Pentagon spokesman said the aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush, along with its escort ships, has headed to the Middle East, where it is to join other U.S. carrier strike groups to bolster military presence in the region.
The Wall Street Journal reports The Wall Street Journal.
Departure of the aircraft carrier
The Nemitz-class aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush left Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia on March 31.
The transition to the region will take several weeks, after which the ship will join active U.S. aircraft carrier groups, according to the military.
Acting U.S. Forces in the Region
The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is currently on a mission in the Arabian Sea, while the USS Gerald R. Ford is undergoing repairs in a port in Croatia.
Besides aircraft carriers, the US is increasing its presence with other military forces: landing ships along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit recently entered the waters off Iran.
Movement of additional troops
U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of elements of the 82nd Airborne Regiment to the Middle East.
In addition, up to 10,000 troops are being considered for deployment to bolster the force and increase readiness for possible military operations in the region.
The increased U.S. military presence is aimed at supporting allies and providing security in the face of rising tensions.
The aircraft carriers, landing forces and additional troop movements demonstrate the U.S. readiness to respond quickly to potential threats and maintain control over key sea and air routes.
