Trump Called For Iranian Soccer Players To Be Given Asylum In Australia

Athletes did not sing the national anthem in the first match of the Asian Cup.

US President Donald Trump has said Australia should grant asylum to Iranian national team soccer players after the Asian Cup, otherwise they will "probably be killed" after returning to their homeland. Trump wrote this on his social media network Truth Social.

Trump said Australia would be making a "terrible humanitarian mistake" if it allowed the soccer players to be forcibly returned to Iran.

"Don't do it Mr. Prime Minister, give them asylum. If you don't want to, the U.S. will take them," Trump noted.
