Moscow is involved in the conflict in the Middle East.

According to sources of the US publication The Washington Post, Russia is providing Iran with intelligence on the location of US warships and planes in the Middle East.

"Moscow's assistance is the first indication that another serious adversary of the United States is involved - albeit indirectly - in the war, according to three officials with knowledge of the intelligence," the paper said The three officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, told the publication.

"It appears to be a pretty comprehensive effort," one of the interlocutors said.

The Russian Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment.

The extent of Russia's assistance to Iran in targeting is not entirely clear.

Officials said the Iranian military's ability to locate U.S. troops has deteriorated in less than a week since the fighting began.

The CIA and the Pentagon declined to comment.

Two officials with knowledge of Russia's support for Iran said China does not appear to be helping Iran's defense despite the close ties between the two countries.

The Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment.

Iran has only a few military satellites and does not have its own satellite constellation, making the data provided by Russia extremely valuable.

In addition, the Pentagon is rapidly using up its stockpile of precision weapons and air defense interceptors. Sources with knowledge of the matter told the publication.

One official said that the quality of Russia's intelligence gathering is not on par with the U.S., but is still among the best in the world.
