Orders are to destroy classified information.
The United States ordered the evacuation of its embassy in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, overnight Thursday through Friday local time.
According to CBS News.
According to two U.S. officials, the order included demands that embassy employees destroy sensitive information and erase it on classified servers.
American officials also told CBS News that the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait has been attacked multiple times. The U.S. State Department announced the suspension of embassy operations the day before.
"While there have been no reports of injuries among U.S. personnel, the safety of Americans abroad remains the highest priority," the State Department said in a statement announcing the suspension.
The publication recalls that the evacuation was also influenced by Iran's stinging strike on Kuwait earlier this week, which killed six US troops.
Kuwait became embroiled in the war
Kuwait is known to have become embroiled in Operation Epic Fury, opposing Iran on the side of the US and Israel. Tehran, shortly after the Feb. 28 American attack, began striking U.S. military bases located in several Middle Eastern countries, Kuwait among them.
The incident that received the most publicity was when Iranian drones violated Kuwait's airspace - at the time, the attacks on the commercial port killed 6 US servicemen.
An emergency was also reported when Kuwait mistakenly attacked three US fighter jets, mistaking them for enemy targets. The crew managed to eject and is in stable condition.
