The operation involved hacking into the city's video surveillance systems, infiltrating cellular networks, and using a high-level source.

The British newspaper Financial Times has published details of a multi-year Israeli intelligence operation that preceded the liquidation of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran (translated by cursorinfo.co.il). According to the newspaper, the operation involved extensive hacking of the city's CCTV systems, infiltration of cellular networks and the use of a high-ranking source.

The newspaper's interlocutors among Israeli and American officials say that for several years, Israeli intelligence services had access to most traffic cameras in the Iranian capital. The images, according to the investigation, were transmitted to servers in Israel, allowing them to track the movements of guards and the routes of high-ranking officials.

Some cameras provided strategic angles, capturing the parking spots of bodyguards' cars and giving a glimpse of daily life in heavily guarded areas. In parallel, the Israeli side reportedly penetrated deeply into Iranian cellular networks, gaining additional information on the communications and movements of the country's leadership.

According to the publication, U.S. intelligence had a source confirming a meeting involving Khamenei at the scheduled time. On the day of the operation, cellular antennas in the area of the meeting were taken out of service to eliminate the possibility of transmitting a warning. As a result, phones in the strike area did not receive incoming calls.

After final intelligence confirmation, up to 30 precision-guided munitions were fired at the meeting site. The strike resulted in the death of the supreme leader.

The piece also notes that in Israel sought to realize the operation before a possible escalation of the conflict. The Israeli side estimates that in the event of an outbreak of open war, the Iranian leadership would activate pre-arranged hiding protocols, including moving into underground bunkers.

Analysis of data sets obtained from cameras and other sources was conducted using sophisticated algorithms. Residential addresses, shift schedules, routes and security measures were studied to form a complete intelligence picture. Unit 8200 and Mossad played a key role in processing the information.
