Ukrainian MPs: National Flag Will Again Fly Over Free Minsk

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine congratulated Belarusians on the Day of Will.

During the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deputies congratulated Belarusians on the Day of Will.

"On March 25, Free Democratic Belarus celebrates the Day of Will - the 108th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic, which was the first historical step of the Belarusian people towards their own statehood. This moment did not last long, but it remains forever in history. The Day of Will is a reminder that the desire for freedom is an integral part of the Belarusian identity," reads the statement.

Parliamentarians said that today Belarus is living under double occupation: by Lukashenko's regime and by Russia, which has turned Belarus into a springboard for the destruction of Ukraine.

"In accordance with the norms of international humanitarian law, Belarus is an occupied territory. This is a legal fact regulated by Articles 42 of the Hague Convention and 2 of the Geneva Convention. Ukraine is the first state that is obliged to make this conclusion official. By maintaining diplomatic relations with Minsk, we legitimize the regime that kills our citizens. It is time to put an end to this," the statement reads.

Deputies emphasize that there is another Belarus - and it is fighting.

"On this day we bow our heads with special gratitude to the soldiers of the Kastus Kalinovsky regiment, who since the first days of the full-scale invasion have been defending the Ukrainian land on the hottest parts of the front. They defend the idea for which we are fighting: the fate of the nation cannot be imposed by force - it is determined by those who are ready to stand for it. Their bravery on the battlefield proves what has always been declared: freedom of Ukraine and freedom of Belarus are indivisible. The real independence of Belarus will be won also in this war," reads the statement.

Democratic change of power in Minsk is a question of security of the entire region, the parliamentarians write.

The inter-faction deputy association of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "For Democratic Belarus!" calls to break diplomatic relations with the Lukashenko regime; to officially recognize Belarus as a territory occupied by Russia; to hand over the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Kiev to the democratic representatives of the Belarusian people, Glory to Ukraine!" - reads the statement.
