Colombian Air Force Plane Carrying About 100 Military Personnel Crashed

What is known.

A Colombian Air Force (Air Force) FAC 1016 "Negrocules" plane crashed in the south of the country, Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said. TV channel Caracol reported that preliminary reports said 125 people were on board.

"It is with deep sorrow that I report that the aircraft "Nercules" suffered a tragic accident on takeoff from Puerto Legisamo (Putumayo) while carrying members of our security forces," he wrote on social media X.

The minister said the exact number of victims and causes of the accident have not yet been determined. Military units are already at the crash site.

Caracol writes that the preliminary cause of the crash was difficulties in performing the plane's maneuver - after takeoff, the plane failed to gain altitude properly. The aircraft was carrying members of the 27th Brigade as part of a troop rotation in the region, the channel said. According to preliminary reports, there were 11 crew members of 114 servicemen on board, although this figure has not been officially confirmed, Caracol noted.

Infobae writes that there were at least two platoons on board, that is, 60 to 100 people.
