Ukraine May Develop Anti-helicopter Drones

The expert explained how this will change the situation on the front.

Ukraine in the "review perspective" may see drones specialized in destroying helicopters. This opinion was expressed by Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, on the air of Radio NV, commenting on the shooting down of a Russian Ka-52 helicopter by an FPV drone.

He explained that such drones can be adapted for this task, taking into account the necessary weight of the warhead, flight range and the possibility of waiting for the target on the ground.

"And so the creation of such drones that will be able to ambush helicopters, and being adapted to attack such a target - taking into account the speeds, the impact of the blades on the flight of the drone. It means that when an FPV drone approaches a helicopter, it is very much affected by the air currents created by the helicopter blades rotating at high speed. And this creates very strong air currents that will hinder turbulence and everything else," Katkov said.

He added that if Ukrainian developers manage to solve this problem and create such a device - it will lead to the fact that the Russian Federation may refuse to use its attack helicopters in the area where such UAVs can fly. The analyst explained:

"Well, an arms race will begin. We will increase the range of our anti-helicopter drones, Russia will try to come up with something to keep them relevant. So far it seems to me that such a scenario is possible."
