The powerful strike stopped the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga.
The export of Russian oil through the Baltic Sea ports, which is a key route for supplies abroad, has been temporarily stopped. This is reported by Reuters with reference to sources in the industry.
The reason was a large-scale drone attack on the Leningrad region. According to the agency's interlocutors, the raid, which involved at least 60 drones - the largest since the start of the war - brought both major Baltic ports, Primorsk and Ust-Luga, to a halt. Up to half of all Russian oil exports pass through them.
On the evening of March 22, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed the attack on Primorsk. According to him, several fuel tanks caught fire at the port, from where about 1 million barrels of oil are shipped daily.
Reuters sources also reported the suspension of shipments at Ust-Luga, through which about 700,000 barrels per day are exported. At the same time, there is still no exact information whether the terminal has suffered damage.
By the background of these events, Russian oil companies are facing difficulties in trying to take advantage of the rise in energy prices caused by the conflict over Iran. The port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea has previously been subjected to drone attacks, causing it to fall behind the shipping schedule by about 10 days.
