British Submarine With Tomahawk Missiles Approached Iran

The British Army could strike if the conflict escalates.

A British Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles has arrived in the Arabian Sea.

The Daily Mail reports.

The submarine HMS Anson left port in Perth on March 6 and has already taken up a position in the northern Arabian Sea.

The sources said the British army now has the ability to strike Iran if the conflict escalates.

"Anson will be hiding quietly. The prime minister and the commander of naval operations will be told where she is, and of course the Submarine Service, but her whereabouts will not be widely known," the source said.

The interlocutor specified that the Navy could quickly put the submarine in position, where it could remain for weeks.

Britain's Defense Ministry, meanwhile, declined to comment on the location of HMS Anson, saying it would not disclose details of current operations and deployments.

Media reports said HMS Anson moves closer to the surface every 24 hours to communicate with commanders at PJHQ in Northwood, London. In the event of a decision to attack, the order to open fire can be given by the head of joint operations after approval from the prime minister.

This comes amid British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's decision to allow the US to use British bases to strike Iranian targets, particularly to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz region.

What is known about HMS Anson

The submarine is armed with Tomahawk Block IV missiles with a range of up to 1,000 miles and Spearfish heavy torpedoes.

She is designed to carry a crew of 98 and can autonomously stay at sea for up to three months. The submarine's nuclear reactor does not require refueling for 25 years.
