A Drone Disrupted The Operation Of Tallinn Airport

Estonian police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

On Saturday night, Tallinn airport delayed the landing of three planes because of a drone that approached the airfield.

According to Estonian broadcaster ERR.

The airport was suspended for 20 minutes due to the UAV threat.

"Tallinn Airport has received information from Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS that a drone is moving in the Lasnamäe area, which may pose a threat to air traffic. Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS applied the appropriate procedures, which affected three arriving flights, of which two were diverted to waiting and one to Helsinki," airport spokeswoman Jane Kallaste said.

It turned out that the owner of the drone traveling toward the airport had simply lost control of the machine.

"We received information from the police that the concerned drone operator had lost contact with his drone and that the drone was probably heading toward the airport. The air traffic controller then informed the planes in the air about the drone with an unknown location and the planes stayed on their courses," said Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS air traffic control manager Mihkel Haug.

The Estonian police and the Estonian Transport Authority are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
