Iran launched two ballistic missiles at the U.S.-British Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean.

It was reported by Reuters and WSJ.

On the night of March 21, Iran fired two medium-range ballistic missiles toward the base. According to the WSJ, they did not reach it.

The Mehr Agency called the attack "a significant step," adding, "the range of Iranian missiles exceeds what the enemy has previously imagined."

The Diego Garcia base is about 4,000 kilometers from Iran - double the 2,000-kilometer limit that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said last month.

One of the missiles missed its target and the other was shot down by a U.S. warship interceptor.

Base Diego Garcia is considered one of the most strategic U.S. military installations outside the Middle East. From the island, the U.S. can deploy bombers, nuclear submarines and destroyers.
