Media: Russian Air Defense Forces Shot Down A Civilian Airplane Near Moscow

(Updated) The incident is being covered up.

A Russian air defense system has probably shot down a civilian light-engine plane. The military mistook the aircraft for a Ukrainian UAV and opened fire.

Russian Telegram channel MNS reported this, citing informed sources. It also published a photo of the wreckage. The information requires confirmation, writes dialog.ua.

Details are still few. According to sources, the plane was shot down in the town of Kolomna, which is about 80 km southeast of Moscow.

- Air defense forces mistook the aircraft for a Ukrainian UAV and opened fire on the mistaken target. After being hit, the light-engine aircraft lost control and crashed near the Oka River. Both people on board were killed," the Russian resource wrote.

The Defense Ministry and local authorities are keeping quiet about the incident. However, it is known that Moscow has been subjected to massive drone raids in recent days, with Russian air defense systems working very actively. On March 20, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported the interception of more than 20 UAVs on the approach to the Russian capital.
