Statkevich Urged European Countries To Create The Belarusian Volunteer Corps
Nikolai Statkevich

Such a move could be a deterrent to Russian aggression.

Belarusian opposition leader Mikola Statkevich said that the presence of an armed unit formed by Belarusians abroad can change the balance of security in the region. He wrote about it in his Telegram channel.

The Belarusian politician came up with the initiative to form a combat-ready unit from emigration. In his opinion, such a step could become a deterrent to Russian aggression:

It is known that thousands of young Belarusians, forced to leave their country under the threat of repression, have already undergone military training in Poland. We propose to form from them the Belarusian Peacekeeping Volunteer Corps (hereinafter - the Corps). We call on European countries to provide the Corps financially, as well as combat equipment, weapons and military (including heavy) equipment.

We propose to deploy the Corps near the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, where its task will be to prevent repeated aggression against Ukraine from the Belarusian territory.

The Corps' task will also be to counter attempts of Russian aggression against the Baltic States from the territory of Belarus. Faced with the threat of a blow to the rear of the invasion group and with a rebellious country behind them, the Russian militarists will be forced to abandon aggression.

The Corps will also be tasked with forcing Moscow to withdraw its nuclear weapons from the territory of Belarus.

I appeal to the leaders of European countries with a request to consider this plan and give Belarusians a chance to save their country, Europe and the world themselves.

We call on our partners in the Belarusian National Congress to join our work to promote and implement this plan.
