About 27% of Americans approve of the US-Israeli operation against Iran, which resulted in the elimination of the country's top leadership. That's according to the results of a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from Feb. 28 to March 1 among 1,282 American adults.
About 27% of respondents said they approve of the military operation, while 43% expressed disapproval and 29% were undecided. About nine in 10 respondents said they had heard at least a little about the military operation, which began on Feb. 28.
About 56% of Americans believe U.S. President Donald Trump, who has ordered strikes against Venezuela, Syria and Nigeria in recent months, is too willing to use military force to advance U.S. interests, according to the poll. An overwhelming majority of Democrats (87%) held this view, as did 23% of Republicans and 60% of people who do not identify themselves with either political party.
55% of Republicans support strikes on Iran, while 13% oppose them. At the same time, 42% of Trump's party members said they would be less supportive of a campaign against Iran if it resulted in the death or injury of U.S. military personnel in the Middle East.
The approval level for Trump's job performance as president fell to 39%. That is down one percentage point from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted Feb. 18-23.
On March 1, Trump confirmed that three U.S. military personnel were killed during a joint military operation with Israel against Iran. Trump said that more casualties are likely before the fighting ends.
