Hundreds Of Tankers Stopped Off The Coast Of Iran

Ships are hesitant to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

After the U.S. and Israeli attacks in the Persian Gulf, transportation chaos ensued. At least 150 huge tankers with oil and gas simply stopped in the middle of the sea, not daring to sail further through the war zone. This is reported by Reuters, citing fresh data from the MarineTraffic service.

The platform's experts say that most of the ships are now "hiding" in safe zones off the coasts of Kuwait and the Emirates. Analysts say ships are congregating in whole groups, trying to stay out of dangerous territorial waters where the situation is most tense.

These tankers are carrying fuel from the world's biggest producers - Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Qatar. About 100 more ships are stuck on the other side of the strait, waiting for some good news about the safety of the route, the authors of the material note.

Sources among oil traders and large companies admit that they were forced to completely stop transportation through the Strait of Hormuz. As businessmen themselves say, after Iran threatened to shut off the water, no one wants to risk billions of dollars of cargo and lives of crews.

The military from the center of maritime information under the leadership of the U.S. Navy in its official note reassure that formally the strait has not closed yet. But officers give fair warning of difficulties.

"Sailors should expect an increased naval presence, heightened security measures, possible high-frequency radio calls, vessel congestion at anchorage areas outside the strait and instability in the insurance market," the center said.
