Lukashenko's regime has freed 250 people thanks to U.S. efforts.
Poland praises the efforts of the American and Belarusian sides in the negotiations. But this is not the end of the road.
After news of the release of 250 political prisoners in Belarus following a meeting between the United States Envoy for Belarus John Cole and Alexander Lukashenko, the Polish Foreign Ministry issued the following message:
"We are pleased to receive information about the release of such a large group of people from Belarusian prisons and the fact that almost all remain in their country. This is a step in the right direction. We appreciate the efforts made by the American and Belarusian sides during the negotiations that took place."
There is no complete list of those released. Among the known names, there is no journalist and Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut, whose release Poland has been particularly insistent in seeking.
