The dictator's delusional idea was decided to be realized in Ostroshitsky Gorodok near Minsk.
An agrarian experiment on the use of waste potassium salts for soil fertilization will be conducted in the agro-town of Ostroshitsky Gorodok, Minsk district. "The project is designed for at least two years. This was reported by director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Yuri Shashko, BelTA informs.
The matter is about the implementation of Alexander Lukashenko's "idea" to recycle potash waste into fertilizers. It is assumed that they will be mixed with organic components, including peat and composts, in order to increase the productivity of sandy soils in the first place.
A pilot plot of about 20 hectares has already been selected. Here scientists plan to test various fertilizer variants: from standard mineral fertilizers to combined compositions with the addition of peat and manure and peat and litter composts, as well as clay-salt sludge. Tests will be conducted, in particular, on corn crops.
Specialists note that the effect of organic fertilizers may not manifest itself immediately, but after a season, so the research will take at least two years.
"The primary task is to increase the level of soil fertility. We have huge reserves of waste potassium salts. They are counted in millions of tons. Today, together with scientists and practitioners, we discussed how to better involve them in the turnover," said the chairman of the standing committee of the "Council of the Republic" of the Leonid Zayats.
We recall that Alexander Lukashenko proposed to use a mixture of potassium salt waste and peat to fertilize sandy soils, common in Belarus.
"What if we take a layer of potassium salt waste, a layer of organic matter, a layer of peat, mix it all up? And what would be the result? Probably, it will not be worse - there is still a part of potassium fertilizers there. Plow them, and then add peat and organic fertilizers.
It is necessary to look at some poor field, poor soil - and we have enough of them there and under my nose - and try it on some plot. It's not a problem. And maybe we'll solve the problem with these dumps, which you had in your province around Soligorsk?" - Lukashenko appealed to Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, who was formerly head of the Minoblispolkom.
A scientist in the field of colloidal chemistry, a former employee of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Besarab warned that such technology could lead to salinization of land, contamination of groundwater and accumulation of toxic substances in agricultural products, and ultimately badly affect the health of Belarusians.
