American actor Sean Penn and former head of the Office of the President Andrei Yermak visited a unit of the 157th Independent Mechanized Brigade, which is located on the Donetsk direction.

The brigade itself reported this on Wednesday, March 18.

According to the press service, the actor talked to the military, expressed his support and thanked them for their dedication to the defense of Ukraine.

"His visit is a sign that the world sees and appreciates our heroes, who day after day stand in defense of freedom and independence of our country. Such meetings inspire and remind us that even in the most difficult times we are not alone, and our bravery will not go unnoticed," the brigade noted.

The 157th OMBR published a photo with the guests. In one of the photos, Sean Penn and Yermak can be seen against the background of the stele of the city of Slavyansk.

On March 16, the actor arrived in Ukraine instead of attending the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards ceremony. Sean Penn was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar 2026 for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle for Another. He won the 2026 Oscar but did not show up at the Dolby Theatre to pick up the award.

Andrey Yermak congratulated the American actor on the award and called him a close friend.

"Congratulations to a great friend of Ukraine and my close friend Sean Penn on his new Oscar. One battle after another is an incredibly symbolic title for Ukraine as well," Yermak wrote.
