The sides adopted the temporary ceasefire in connection with the upcoming Islamic holiday of Uraza Bayram (Eid-ul-Fitr), which this year is celebrated on the night of March 19 to 20.
Uraza Bayram (from Turk. Uraza - fasting, bairam - holiday; in Arabic it is called Eid al-Fitr and translates as "the holiday of the cessation of fasting") is one of the two major Muslim holidays that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Afghanistan launched a military operation against Pakistan in late February 2026.
