Israel Has Announced The Elimination Of The Head Of Basij

Gholamreza Suleimani has been implicated in the crackdown on protests in Iran.

The Israeli military said a commander of the Basij volunteer paramilitary force was killed in a "pinpoint strike in Tehran."

"Yesterday (Monday), the Israeli Air Force, acting on IDF intelligence, struck and eliminated Gholamreza Suleimani, who has commanded the Basij unit for the past six years," the Israeli military said in a statement.

The Basij militia is a volunteer paramilitary organization close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It is the Basij that Iranian authorities often use to suppress protests in the country.
