Czech President Announces Final Rejection Of Russia's Energy Resources
Peter Paul

Prague has no plans to buy energy from Moscow even after the war.

The Czech Republic will not buy energy from Russia no matter what the situation is, the country's President Petr Pavel said, LRT reports.

Pavel made the statement after talks with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda in Vilnius.

"We will not consider returning to Russian energy no matter what the situation is. We have reduced our dependence on Russian energy sources. This is a final decision and technically it is not even possible to resume it," he said.

The Czech president said Prague can currently rely only on energy sources that come from the south and west. They are sufficient to fully meet the Czech Republic's needs, Pavel emphasized.

Czech Republic in April 2025 began full-scale operation of the increased capacity of the TAL (Transalpine Pipeline) oil pipeline to import fuel through Western Europe. This allowed the country to completely abandon oil supplies from Russia. The modernization carried out by Mero now meets the needs of Czech refineries for up to 8 million tons of oil per year.
