Iran Confirms New Supreme Leader Is Wounded
Mojtaba Khamenei

Israeli intelligence gave details.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said the country's new supreme leader Mojtabu Khamenei has been injured.

After his election, Khamenei did not make any public statements for about two days. A spokesman for the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry, Esmail Bagai, told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Hamenei is feeling well, he said. However, there is no information yet to whom the new supreme leader will deliver his first speech after his appointment.

The Times of Israel earlier quoted Israeli intelligence as saying that newly elected supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei was injured on the first day of the US and Israeli strikes.

He is believed to have suffered minor leg injuries but remained conscious. He was also in a secure location with limited communications.

Iranian authorities fear that any public statement could reveal his whereabouts and could put him in danger. Therefore, he has not been shown publicly until now.
