What's the deal?
The head of Ukraine's delegation to the trilateral talks in the UAE and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov called the meeting in Abu Dhabi on February 4 and 5 constructive. He published on Facebook a communiqué on the results of the second round of talks.
Umerov said their goal was to "advance efforts to end the war in Ukraine."
"The discussions were constructive and focused on ways to create conditions for achieving lasting peace," the SNBO secretary wrote.
Umerov noted that the delegations reached an agreement under which Russia and Ukraine made mutual releases of 157 prisoners of war. This is the first exchange in the last five months, the head of the Ukrainian delegation pointed out.
"Over the course of two days, the delegations held extensive discussions on the remaining outstanding issues, in particular on the methods of implementing the ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities," Umerov said.
He emphasized that the delegations agreed to inform their capitals and continue trilateral talks in the coming weeks.
