Starlink Terminals Were Massively Disconnected From Russian Military In Ukraine

Almost 90% of the units don't have internet.

Starlink satellite communication terminals of the Russian military in Ukraine have stopped working. This was reported late in the evening of February 4 by Z-bloggers, writes The Moscow Times.

"All along the front, Starlinks are down. The enemy has them too," wrote Vladimir Romanov. This was confirmed by "Thirteen", "Two Majors", "Military Observer" and "Belorussian Silovik". The latter noted that almost 90% of units do not have satellite internet. "Now it will be sharply found out that units without communication can't work effectively. Here will be news for some in high offices," writes Z-channel.

In turn, Alex Parker Returns linked the mass disconnection to the introduction of Starlink "white lists" in Ukraine and warned that "no terminal reboots will not help." "The hardest hit by this will be the frontline entrenchment assault teams, for example in Kupyansk. They are deprived of any possibility for communication with the big land," Z-channel emphasized.

"Thirteen" added that the military will have to return to "alternative communication," but did not specify which one. At the same time, "Military Observer" reminded that the Russian army "simply has no alternative to Starlink." "A lot of things, including combat control, were tied to it and everything was taken for granted," Z-channel stated.

In early February, the head of Ukraine's Defense Ministry Mikhail Fedorov announced a decision to rewrite all Starlink terminals operating in the country to create a "white list" of registered devices and disable all others. Fedorov emphasized that this was "a reaction to the Russians' use of Starlink." He said the Russian army has begun installing the terminals on long-range drones to strike targets in the country. The introduction of a "white list" is the only technical solution to counter such tactics of the Russian army, Fedorov stressed.

Advisor to Ukraine's Defense Minister Sergey Sternenko noted that after the mass shutdown of Starlink, Russian units will start having problems with troop control at the tactical level, and the Ukrainian army will be able to regain its advantage in communications.
