White House Prepares Urgent Changes To U.S. Immigration Strategy

Trump has allowed for policy softening.

US President Donald Trump has withdrawn 700 military personnel from Minnesota following protests over a deadly immigration operation and is allowing for a softening of policy.

According to CNN.

According to Trump's statements, he made the decision to withdraw the military to prevent an escalation of violence and ensure public order. The president said the situation needs to be controlled, but without unnecessary escalation.

"I realized that we may need to take a little bit of a softer approach, but we still need to be tough," he stressed, adding that there will be no complete abandonment of a tough course.

At the same time, the administration is considering adjusting immigration policy to avoid a repeat of critical incidents.

Trump also said the administration is awaiting detailed information on individuals being held by law enforcement, particularly those suspected of serious crimes. He added that his team's actions have allegedly reduced crime rates in Minnesota.

The protests erupted after a massive U.S. Department of Homeland Security operation launched Jan. 22 in Maine. The official goal of the operation was to search for aliens with criminal records. During the raid, an immigration agent shot and killed 37-year-old U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Goode, and later killed nurse Alex Pretty. The incidents sparked mass protests in more than a dozen cities across the country.

Amid the events, Donald Trump's approval rating on immigration policy fell to its lowest level since his return to the White House. At the same time, the White House is discussing the possibility of easing individual measures, while maintaining the main rigid strategy of controlling migration.
