Medvedev Urged To Take An Example From North Korea's Economy

The DPRK is one of the poorest countries in the world.

North Korea has achieved outstanding results with little economic opportunities under a total blockade, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev told TASS, Reuters and Wargonzo.

In his words, the DPRK has managed to build a defense industry and ensure national security, which "arouses respect." Pyongyang can learn from "how to organize quick and effective mobilization of economic opportunities," Medvedev stressed.

The DPRK is one of the poorest countries in the world. The real GDP of the country is estimated at about $26.7 billion, GDP per capita - about $1.1 thousand. The level of income of an ordinary resident is only 3-4% of the income of South Koreans. The salary even for business executives is about $10 a month.

North Korea recently had nothing to feed its population. The last large-scale famine in the DPRK came in the late 1990s and claimed up to 3 million lives, according to various estimates. In 2020-2023, amid closed borders and a pandemic, the country was again facing an acute food crisis, with numerous deaths from starvation reported by refugees and international organizations.
