The Cuban Coast Guard shot and killed four passengers of a US-registered speedboat after it opened fire on Cuban personnel. This was reported by the Cuban Embassy in the U.S. on social network X.
The boat was spotted in Cuban territorial waters on the morning of February 25. It approached the coast of the island at a distance of one nautical mile, after which a unit of the Cuban border guard approached the vessel for inspection. There were five servicemen on board. The boat's crew allegedly opened fire on the Cuban border guards, wounding the commander. The Border Guard returned fire.
At the time of the report, the embassy wrote, four of the attackers had been killed and six others were wounded, evacuated and treated.
The embassy said Cuba reaffirms its determination to defend territorial waters. An investigation by the competent authorities is ongoing and all the circumstances of the incident are being established.
